Pet story by Karthik Rajeev: How Simba changed our lives

To say that my cat “Simba” has had an impact on my life—and the lives of our entire family—would be an understatement. He came into our lives one fine winter evening in 2017, meowing, “I chose you! Since we were watching The Lion King, it was inevitable that “Simba” would end up being his name. Despite having a twin sister, he is now my third sibling, and we have found the best relationship of our lives – not kidding!

“Simba” is a 5 year old cat part of the family since he was a kitten. He entered our lives shortly after we tragically lost our previous cat. We were first hesitant to get another cat, but Simba’s supernatural powers of cuteness and his antics won us over and the rest is history, as they say. Looking down the memory lane, a mere breathtaking glance at Simba can magically bring a smile to our faces. Isn’t it mystifying how such a tiny creature can affect your emotions so profoundly?

Talking about Simba, his disposition is very calm and peaceful in nature. One of his favourite things to do is to sit near the windows or balcony and watch the world go by. He has made one friend “Tigu” here and primarily despises other cats. He is also quite bashful and avoids encounters with strangers by going in his place. He is also not a foodie and seems eager to follow a minimal diet to maintain his “cat physique”! When in a fun mood, he likes to play around the house with his favourite toys like remote control cars, feather strings, or anything that moves.

He also loves to hone his hunting skills using a scratch pad bought especially for him. Simba loves to hangout in his tree house observing everything around him. He is also our natural living alarm sound in the morning as he wakes everyone up around 5 every morning without fail – there goes my sleep!

Raising a cat also teaches you how to take on a lot of responsibilities– from taking care of the meals, grooming the pet, and spending time playing with the fur ball to looking after them while they are not well.  A kitten’s supernatural powers of helpless cuteness will make anyone say “I want and need that!”

Raising a cat from a tiny little kitten, and having the same kitten grow to love you unconditionally is the most humbling experience ever. Simba just turned up at our door – and filled our life with so much joy. We love our adorable furball and his charms are incontestable. We can’t wait to create many more years of mesmerizing memories with him.
